The alloy frame was replaced with a steel frame, as well as an unfluted, engraved cylinder and music wire coil springs. Production beginning in 1971 and ending in 1975, the 2nd Issue was sold as an all-round improvement on the 1st Issue. The 1st Issue uses a solid alloy frame with un-chequered walnut grip and fixed Partridge front and square rear sights. Several changes have been made to improve the Bearcat both aesthetically and mechanically: The Bearcat has had several changes applied to it. Original and 2nd Issue Bearcats use a 4in (101mm) while the later 3rd Issue Bearcat uses a 4.2in (107mm) barrel. Two barrel lengths are used with Bearcats. The 3rd Issue Bearcat features Ruger's patented transfer-bar mechanism, designed to prevent accidental firing by preventing the hammer striking a cartridge without the trigger being pulled, which was not included in the original two models, whose production was stopped soon after the introduction of the transfer bar. The single action mechanism is taken from the Single Six. The Bearcat is based on the Remington revolvers from the mid 19th century. All Bearcats are solid framed, and the lightest revolver that Ruger manufacture. The frame was originally made of an alloy, however from the 2nd issue the Bearcat was manufactured with a stronger, all steel frame. Although not officially recognised, the Bearcat can be seen as an alternative to the Ruger Blackhawk, produced from 1955 or a development of the Ruger Single Six, produced from 1953. 22 Long Rifle cartridge and its variants. Ok, all I supply (?).The Ruger Bearcat is single action, chambered to fire the. Looking at mine under magnification it's very clear that the grinding/buffing striations match from Frame thru the Blued Trigger Gaurd. Info states 37,000 were made with Brass and only 27,000 were made with Blued Trigger Gaurds. This 1974 Super Bearcat came according to what I've learned came originally with a 'Blued Trigger Gaurd' as many, most or all Super Bearcat's made from early 1972 thru the end of production in 1974. As I mentioned all the original parts are with and in the 1974 Super Bearcat 22lr. Wrong!! A previous owner for whatever reason sent the pistol back to Ruger to have a Wide Top Hammer (along with every internal part and trigger) Installed. Made the assumption that these were parts from a Factory Conversion to add the Hammer Block. The pistol is all of 99% if you'll consider that all original parts are still with though some are in the box in a bag?! Saw the parts bag before, but never looked very close. Thanks guys, should have done so earlier but thought I knew stuff I didn't! So thanks for all the input! Now with what I've learned I hope you'al can help and suggest a value?
